The Ministry of Community Affairs, Gender and Housing, and the Department of Children and Family Services, are organizing a whole month of events to celebrate the 16th annual Child Month observance.
Encouraging national participation, Minister of Community Affairs, Mike Adam said, "We owe it to ourselves to nurture and nourish our children. How we treat them is key to the development of this country, for they are our future leaders. Although Child Month is observed in May, I urge you celebrate the children of these islands every month."
Cassandra Parchment, the child month coordinator for the Department of Children and Family Services, said, "The early years are the foundation of our children's lives, so let's show them love, share quality time and motivate them to achieve their dreams."
Lots of activities, ranging from readings and scavenger hunts, to board games and fitness instructions, will highlight this year's theme: Educate and Motivate.
A family fun day and exposition will be held at Pedro St. James on the Discovery Day public holiday, Monday, 21st May from noon to 4pm.

A tiger shark given the name Coco, when she was tagged off Grand Cayman last year, has returned to local waters.

The tagging programme is run jointly by the Cayman Islands Department of Environment, Marine Conservation International, the Guy Harvey Research
Institute at Nova Southeastern University and the Save Our Seas Foundation.

Coco left Grand Cayman last June and has spent her time off Jamaica, but in early February, she began heading back to the Cayman Islands.

Mauvis Gore of Marine Conservation International said: "Coco may wander further afield as she matures and has the capacity to undertake even longer
migrations."

Mauvis is part of the team from Marine Conservation International, and leads the project funded by the United Kingdom's Overseas Territory Environment
Programme and the Save Our Seas Foundation.

Researchers have been tagging and tracking sharks and rays as part of the extensive survey, which has so far shown that there are fewer sharks than
expected in local waters.

Local conservationists have been trying to bring about an attitude adjustment toward sharks, trying to convince people that they need to be protected,
and not feared and killed. A documentary about sharks by marine-life artist and conservationist, Guy Harvey, was shown earlier this year, and is
helping people understand that this is the way forward.

When you live in the beautiful Cayman Islands, it is likely that you will have summer guests visiting for their vacations. If you are trying to figure out the easiest and best ways to entertain your guests with home activities, there are lots of ideas to consider. Whether there are lots of tourist spots close to you or visitors want to relax around the house, it is always best to prepare so that your summer guests have options If you are planning home activities for your visitors, here are some useful pointers for giving them a great summer getaway at your house.
**Make your living areas inviting : While you may not consider it since you live in your home, your living areas may be the place where your visitors spend the most time. Take advantage of the stunning views which surround your home by cleaning all windows and ensuring a beautiful unrestricted view. Look around your interiors and see whether there are areas for guests to read a book in a snug chair, or possibly even place a throw blanket over the settee for cool summers nights. Think about your home as a hotel with conveniences that you would enjoy if staying there.
**Prepare your outside home: Inevitably your outside home will be another area that your house guests will want to spend plenty of their free time. Make sure seating is inviting, clean, and has been completely washed and dried. Replace unpleasant furniture cushions, paint pine furniture, and dissolve your outdoor home with character. Add ornamental touches like plants, flowers, hanging baskets and shaded areas. Use umbrellas, fabric, arbors or other creative uses of overhead covering to guarantee guests are not sitting in direct sun if they do not want to. For pool areas, make sure the pool is clean, and has enough safe areas for children and grownups to stroll around furniture and landscaped areas.
**Research local facilities: Before your visitors arrive, research local amenities and tourist areas in your hometown. Most locals forget how to be tourists! Visit your local travel agency, surf the net, or visit the tourist office to get leaflets, maps, and an inventory of attractions / tours for your visitors. While your visitors will like your house, part of the excitement of traveling is seeing the local tourists areas and eating the local fare. Throwing on a back pack and taking a nature hike perhaps just the activity your visitors would really like. Talk with your visitors before they arrive and ask them what they would like to do while visiting you, this may save a little time in planning, and avoid disappointment.
**Tailor house activities to your visitors : Consider what kind of guests you are entertaining while selecting activities. For parents with youngsters, consider what activities will be enjoyable for them. Outdoor recreational equipment made available to play in the back yard, or even painting, ensuring that there are plenty of markers and lots of paper available can keep many children happy for hours. For seniors or those who want to relax and be still, consider supplying lots of reading materials, TV guide and remote control could perhaps be all they require as a break away from their home to feel nicely relaxed and rejuvenated by your home.
Your home could be a more exciting destination spot than you ever realized. Take time before your visitors arrive to ascertain their interests along with the facilities of your home. Summer guests wish to enjoy their home, but also spend time with you and your family. Make this a summer to remember and to form vacation memories to last for a life-time. Who knows, you may just enjoy yourself as much as your vacationing house guests!

There are many home improvements you can make on your Curacao Home, however perhaps no home improvement is quite as welcomed by the kids than a swimming pool. Installing a swimming pool in your back yard can be an excellent way to give your family and friends the feeling of a vacation all year round. There are many different types of pools so the first decision is which will suite you, your family and yard/garden best.

There isn't any one best pool to meet everybody's needs or requirements, everybody requires something different. But with so many options how does one choose? The most important question that you will need to answer is whether you wish to add an in ground or above ground pool. There are benefits and disadvantages to each. With an in ground pool, it's a permanent structure in your yard and can add significant worth to your property. There also are plenty more shapes, sizes, and options available with an in ground pool. It is more elegant and may be employed as an ornamental or landscaping piece in your yard.

However an in ground pool is much more permanent so once its built, its there to stay. An above ground pool is only semi-permanent, costs less, and needs less time to build. The key flaw to an above ground pool for many folks is that it is above the ground. This makes it less aesthetic due to it being such a massive structure in your yard. You must be certain that the type of pool you choose is the correct one, as there are very few things worse than having something you loathe sitting in your yard.
If you opt for an above ground pool, there are 2 main shapes, the circle and the oval. The next thing to do is to establish how big you need your pool. Only you can decide this because everybody has got different size yards - this is the time to break out the tape measure! There are several things that you can do which will affect the amount of space you will need for your pool. These options will also add character to your pool. A deck can be built around the pool or alternatively just for the entrance. You could build the pool so that it is partially in the ground, this is a popular choice as it decreases the identifiable peak of the pool making it seem like an in ground pool. Next, you must decide whether or not you are going to have a flat bottom pool or if you're going to have a deep end. After you decide precisely what you are going to do with your pool you can begin selecting what model and liner you would like.
Selecting options for an in ground pool can be much more intense than it is for an above ground pool. Again, step one will be deciding how big you need the pool but there are several shapes available that permit you to get a bigger size pool in a rather more compact area. It is likely that you will need more space for an in ground pool because you'll want a solid deck round the pool. There are other options you are able to add to an in ground pool like a spill over spa or a swim out.
When you've selected your pool and all of your options it is time to take the final step and get everything started!
